Ben Warren is a third generation, with a fourth in the making, oyster farmer who knows how to produce winning oysters, and he’s taken home a number of awards to prove it.
With more than 17 years hands on experience in the industry Ben and his team last year produced around 8% of New Zealand’s oysters, which equates to approximately 300 (greenweight) tonnes of oysters produced from the Bay of Islands.
In 2001 Jo came back home to the Bay of Islands after completing an Honours degree in Criminology and Sociology. She married Ben in 2004, and in 2008 they took over the business together. Raising four children and running a small business has been both challenging and rewarding.
A processing facility is their latest venture, opened in 2016. From here they courier and cold freight live oysters all over the country direct to wholesale customers and consumers. With a focus for distributing only the best quality oysters, attention to detail is a number one priority for this farming family.
